Tien Sin is one of my regular places to eat lunch in Bangkok, and is one of a very few that sell Vegetarian Somtum (Papaya Salad). Usually this is made with fish sauce. It located down a small lane off Soi Pipat 2, which is a road that connects Soi Convent and Soi Pipat. The nearest BTS Skytrain stations are Chong Nonsi (3-4 minutes’ walk) and Sala Daeng (5-7 minutes’ walk).

This place is only open Monday to Friday and mainly attracts local office workers. It’s a small family business, with all the family pitching in. It open early morning until the food runs out sometime after lunch. I usually try to arrive before 12, as it often gets packed from 12-1. You’ll also get a better choice of food if you arrive early.

If coming from the Soi Pipat end, turn into Soi Pipat 2 and you’ll see this yellow sign about 50 meters ahead of you. Tien Sin is down the small lane opposite. If you walk passed later in the day or on a weekend, you won’t see the sign or any trace of the stall.

Once you turn into the lane, you’ll see the stall a few meters in front of you. I’ve been eating here for almost four years on and off and still love it.

There are 4 or 5 tables outside and a few more inside. The outside area has large bamboo plants growing next to it so it’s quite shaded from the sun. A typical meal of rice and 2-3 hot dishes costs around 40-50 baht ($1.35-$1.70).
